Mobile Usability in the US: Widgets & Search

Keiyu KamataniScott Weiss will present a view of the US mobile market and its recent advances, balanced with summaries learned at Mobile HCI in Singapore. His talk will be extensively illustrated with video and data from US-based usability research of Mobile Widgets and Mobile Search. He will add to these insights from his company's recent research with insights learned from the conference in Singapore, where he will lead panels on Mobile Widgets and Mobile Search.

Biography:

Scott Weiss, author of Handheld Usability (Wiley: 2002), is a leader in mobile usability design and research. He is the President of Usable Products Company, which he started in New York City in 1996. Usable Products Company assisted Samsung with usability of the YP-K5 and K3 MP3 players, and worked with Vodafone extensively on the design of the Simply mobile telephone. Scott is an outspoken critic of mobile user interfaces, based on extensive usability research and benchmarking conducted by his team at Usable Products, which recently released two studies, one on Mobile Search in the US, and the other on Alltel's Celltop, a mobile widget solution. Scott's background prior to Usable Products Company was in career roles at Apple, Microsoft, Sybase, and Autodesk. He received a BS in Engineering: Human Interface Design from Stanford University.
