Information Architecture for web sites

The Hong Kong UPA Chapter welcomes Gerry Gaffney, a Usability expert from Australia.

Developing an Information Architecture around user and business requirements is critical to ensure people can find content on web sites quickly and efficiently. We will look at what you need to develop websites ensuring information is well structured, can be managed efficiently and provides a useful and comfortable environment for its users.

Part 1 - 7.30-8.30 Information Architecture
Gerry will discuss its origin and techniques to understand user needs, review existing content and evaluate structures with users.

Part 2 - 8.30-9.30 Workshop - Developing the Information Architecture for www.usability.com.hk
We will use data gathered from the previous workshop in May 2004 and conduct a 'hands-on' activity to explore how the UPA web site can best structure itself. While providing some direct value to UPA, the technique can also be used by workshop attendees in their own projects.

Biography:
Gerry Gaffney is founder & director of Information & Design.

Gerry has a keen interest in 'do-it-yourself' usability. Gerry lectures under-graduate and post-graduate students in various universities on usability and user experience design.

Gerry has spoken on this and related topics in Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, has been interviewed on national radio and has written several newspaper articles (many of which are available on the Information & Design site under Articles & Presentations).

He is passionate about the need to improve the quality of the relationship between humans and the products we use.
