Usability Benchmarking: Making Sure You’re Actually Improving the Product

The Hong Kong UPA Chapter welcomes Kevin Cheng, an independent user experience expert currently working in Hong Kong.

Design, Usability Test, Design, Usability Test. This iterative cycle has been established as an effective process for product development but how do we know if we are actually improving the product through each cycle?

Usability benchmarking is a simple technique to measure the measurable and definitively inform whether critical tasks are being impacted positively or negatively with each design cycle. Biography:
Kevin Cheng is an independent Human-Computer Interaction specialist with a broad range of experience in interaction design, usability analysis, visualdesign and user interface development. Kevin has worked for 4 years for numerous Fortune 500 companies through the consulting firm Trilogy.

Kevin holds a Masters in Human-Computer Interaction and Ergonomics from the University College London Interaction Centre (UCLIC) and has spoken at UXNet and ACM SIG-CHI.

He is also the artist and co-writer of OK/Cancel (http://www.ok-cancel.com), a popular online comic strip exploring information architecture themes and interface design.
