Interaction Design in Asia - Hong Kong vs. The World

Keiyu KamataniAs web use continues to grow in size and complexity, design in HK is struggling to keep up with usability and interaction standards widely practiced in USA, Europe, and Singapore. Why is Hong Kong so slow to adopt a sensible design language? And what can be done to sell a seemingly foreign philosophy? We will try to answer this and more during our discussion.

Please note that this presentation will rely heavily on user participation.

Topics:

  • A brief look at interaction design in HK.

  • Visual differences between HK and US design trends.

  • Dissecting six web sites from various industries and countries, and comparing them to equivalent offerings in HK.

  • What can be done to elavate HK design to compete with other countries.

Leftovers (time permitting):

  • The connection between design and e-commerce in HK.

  • Other mediums in HK that suffer from poor interactive design (Discussion).
